CRICKET.
ATMOJj V. QUEENSTOWN. The aliove match was played on the King's Birthday on the local ground, the visitirg team having arrived per steamer the night before. Although somewhat threatening in the morning the weather held up well and permitted of a very good game between the two clubs mentioned. The wicket was, moreover, in splendid condition. Mr A. McDowall captained the local team and Mr E. Argus the visitors Flay commenced at 10.30 a.m. when Athol went to the wickets and computed 62 runs. Queenstown followed and put up 84. In the second innings the scores were 83 and 98 respectively, giving Queenstown a win by 37 runs. F. Soper (17), M. McLennan (90), E.. Argus (15), and G. McDonald (13), reached double figures on the Athol side, and McDowall (35), Gunion (11), j Gardiner (27), McLean (13) Crawshaw (19), Geisow (13), on the Queenstown side. The fielding and batting of the local men was their strongest point. The bowling of the visitors was the feature of their play hut the field did not back the bowlers up well. Mr Lewis kindly acted as umpire and gave complete satisfaction. During the afternoon refreshments were partaken of, these being provided by the home team. The following are the scores:—

In the evening the majority of the visiting team accepted an invitation to a dance in the Garrison Hall. A good number of local people were also present and a very enjoyable time was spent. Mr McLennan, on behalf of the visitors, expressed thanks to the Queenstown team for the kindly manner in which they had been treated, making special reference to the secretary, Mr A. Crawshaw. Messrs McDowall and Grawshaw briefly replied. The visitors were given a hearty . send off next morning by the local men. It ia hoped that the return match at Athol will be arranged at an eaily date,
