"Well," said Mr. Tompkin, as he sat down to his desk rather later than usual, "they've been to sec me at last." "Who ?" "Burglars."
"You don't say so ! I suppose you'll have to borrow spoons to use at dinner to-night, now?" "No. The spoons aren't silver, and so they left them alone." "Take any money*?" "No." i "Any clothing?"
"Not a stitch." "Well, I don't see that you've any cause to complain."
"Perhaps you don't; but when you get attached to an animal, it's hard to lose him. They went through the house and couldn't find anything worth taking, so they stole my watch-dog."
