The Lone Hand for February, which has just been received by us, is one of the most interesting numbers yet issued. Frank Morton gives the heroic story of the wreck of the Dundonald on Disappointment Island, and Hervey Phipps an account of that vast assemblage of musicians called the Grand National Eisteddfod of Australasia. J. B. Higginson describee pig-shckmg in Queensland, and J. J Bryan writes upon the present situation between Japan and America. Australia, in the eyes of the English ,3 depicted ; the art of Black and W lute iu France is dealt with, there is an article on foods adulterated with chemicals, there are editoral notes worth digesting, other reading of an instructive character, and fiction of the absorbing nature characteristic of the journal. The illustrations are numerous and we'll executed. A verdict of" Not Guilty » was returned in the charge of murder against Harry Thaw on the ground that he was insane at the time of the murder. Judge Dowling «aid that to discharge the prisoner would be dangerous to public safety. He therefore ordered Thaw to be confined in the Matteswan Asylum for au indefinite period.
