Two young fellows, after an outing 011 the river, were drawing near the landing-place when in a boat just ahead of them they saw a young lady stand up, glance round, apparently miss her footing, then topple headlong overboard. One of the young fellows dropped his oar and plunged in to go to her assistance. After a heroic struggle he managed to pet the young lady safe on the landing stage. Immediately she had shaken the water from her head and eyes, she turned to her sescuer and said : "My dear sir, how can I ever thank you ? What a risk you've run !" He took the proffered hand, and in the dry, cynical way that is characteristic of him, answered : "No risk at all, young lady. You see, I'm married already."
