BOWLING NOTES.

The bowling green has been liberally patronised during the past week by visiton as well as club members. Several rinks and doubles matches hive been played off between combinations of visitors and club members aud they have as a rule.ended in favor of the former. Two strong combinations of pairs of viators against each other a few days ago. These were Messrs Sim and Reich (North Island) and Messrs Darton and J. T. Brown (South Islaud). The former were victorious. The following have signed their names in the visitors book at the green : Messrs W. Vickery (St. Kilda, Dunedin), G. Barclay (St Leonards), U. L Darton (Lawrence), J. Crow (Dunedin), D. E. and D. A. Ivory (Dunedin), J. j. Tacon (Sumner), J J. Reich, (Wellington), T. Nelson- (Milton), Roberts (Balmacewen), J. T. Brown, Vice-president, New Zetland Bowling Association, Christcburch. The green continues to play fairly well. Last weeks showers of rain did a lot to keep the grass in good fettle. The caretaker reports go<id business this season. Up to the present one hundred single games have been paid for. A good many weekly tickets have also been issued. The handicap singles for Mr A. E. Smith's trophy have made a commencement The first round will require to be completed to-morrow. "Leader" writing in the 'Evening Star' in regard to the New Zealand bowling tournament which will lie commenced on January 20th says: "Iu past years my " estimates " of the entry for the rinks has, generally speaking, been pretty correct and, taking a line from the chatter one hears from day to day, as well as from " information received, - ' I should say that when the cards are out at least niuety combinations will have paid up, aud it would not surprise me to learn that the 100 mark had been reached. Entries (5s per player) for rinks will be due at mid day on the 18th inst •
