DISAPPOINTMENT OF THE DUKE.
The Duke of Abruzzi has had all his costly preparations for the ascent of Mount Ituwenzoti, in Central Africa, for nothing. The mountain has been regarded as inaccessible, all attempts to reach its summit having met with failure. Fncouraged by his success in getting to the top of Mount Klias, in Alaska which had never been done before, he made up his mind to be the first. man to climb to the highest peak of Mount Ruwenzori, and engaged the Alpine guides who had been with him in Alaska. He was in London a short while ago completing the purchase of the supplies and equipment for his quite large expedition into the interior of Africa, and making arrangements with the British colonial authorities. Suddenh news was received that the Austrian explorer, Dr. Grauer, had iusi accomplished the feat of climbing to the top of Mount Ruwanzori. The Prince, it is believed, has now lo abandon his projected African expedition, ami again turn his attention to the North Pole, in connection with which he has already won so much fame.
