PRESBYTERIAN SOCIAL

~* The second social promoted this wint£ by the congregation of local Presbyterian Church eventuated last Thursday in the Garrison Hall. There was a very good attendance which included several country people, the good weather prevailing at the time tending to make the function more successful than it otherwise might have been. The social took the usual form. On the floor of the hall were placed a few tables which were utilised for the parlor games brought into requisition on such occasions. During the evening the audience was treated to a very enjoyable programme of musical and'other items. Two choruses were well rendered by the choir under the baton of Mr A. Boyne. These were " I was Glad " and " Adoration." Included in the first-named was a trio which was taken by Misses Henderson, Julia Anderson and Boyne; also a quartette, the parts of which were sustained by .Mrs Mussen, Miss Boyne and Messrs John and Jas. Fraser. The chorus •' Adoration" contained an obligate which was taken by Mrs Mussen. The other items were:—Violin solos, "Flowers of the Forest" and Comin' thro' the Rye" by Master Douglas Da?g, accompanied by his sister, Miss Jessie ; song " McGregor's Gathering," Mr J. C. Mcßride ; in response to an encore this gentleman sang " March of the Cameron Mtp" ; recitation, " Papa's Letter," Miss Jessie Kennedy ; violin solo with variations, " Mocking Bird," Mr J. Fraser ; song " Angus McDonald," Mrs Mussen; recitation, " Fireman's Wedding," Miss Nicholas ; pianoforte solo, Miss Pearl Evans; vocal duet, " Pulaski's Banner," Miss and Mr A Boyne. Miss Roid acted as accompanist. An abundance of first-class refreshments, provided by the ladies, was handed round during the evening. At the termination of the social the Rev. Jas. Wilson thanked all those who had helped in getting up the social, complimenting them on the success it had been. He also thanked those who contributed to the musical programme. The piano used on the occasion • was kindly lent by Mr A. Boyne, agent for the Dresden Pianoforte Co.
