TELEGRAPHIC NEWS.

FROM OCR OWJT COBBB3PONDINT. DuNEDitf this day. The Financial Statement conies down tonight. Its feature will undoubtedly be the Land Policy. The proposals to be submitted will be such as to leave no doubt in the minds of the country or House as to the intentions of the Government. They will probably give rise to one of the liveliest debates heard in Parliament for many years and (if lobby rumour is to be credited) more than one member who was returned as a supporter of the Seddon administration is likely to cross the floor. Ministers will put before the House a clear cut issue on Radical lines and will stand or fall by their Land Policy. Once elaborated there will be no withdrawal even should an appeal to tho country be forced, which, however, is improbable. Authority to raise a million loan will be asked and no alternation in Customs tariff will bo proposed. A deputation asked the Hon J. A. Millar to remove 20 per cent duty on potatoes. He declined, as to do so would be to open the door for further demands and this session the Government was not prepared for Tariff revision. RUSSIAN AFFAIRS. Murder, assassination and bombthrowing continues in Russia. The people seem apathetic. The press says it is the inevitable outcome of war between the Government and people. A young lady shot General Minn dead at a railway station in the presence of his wife. Preparations are being made for a Jewish massacre. Seven British battleships and two large cruisers are at present helpless through damage sustained. THE KAISER'S CLEMENCY. London, August 26. On the occasion of his grandson's christening, the Kaiser released all persons imprisoned for lese Majeste. FATAL QUARREL. Brisbane, August 27. As the result of a row in a gambling den, a Chinaman murdered a countryman with a tomahawk. FRENCH SHIP WRECKED. Hobart, August 27. News has been received that the, French ship Vanban, voyaging from the United States to Hobart for orders, was totally wrecked at Newfoundland, the crew being rescued.
