A BIG NOSE.
Kicbard Smith, of Indian Rim, Lewis County, New York, has a most remaikable nose. He says it is a birthmark ; that his. father, Michael, came home intoxicated one night and struck his mother on the nose. The maternal nose swelled and was dietigured for several months. The infant, who was christened Richard Smith, waa born with three reddish marks on the note, which > grew in size with advancing yean. On account of his appearanee largely young Smith did not go to school. He took to the life of a lumberman. Hia muscles grew strong, and he has i chest which, struck, resounds like a bass drum. He is l Bquare shouldered and straight as an arrow. To paraphrase the words of Persia's Wilt, Whitman, one Omar Khayam, he speaks through his " all obliterating noee." In , fact, all his features an obliterated by the pear-like nose, through which the words come with a trumpet-like clang. As far asthe operation is concerned forth* removal of part of the nose, for whieh par- ■ pose he is now in New Yoik city, the surgeons say that it will not be a dangerous one, and tint it is likely the young man will' emerge from it much handsomer. .1 ■ t
