A CURIOUS CUSTOM.

In the Omeneea country, it is the custom of the Carrier Indians, when one kills another, that the murderer gives his life to the killed man's relatives. The relatives may put the murderer to death or make him their slave. Recently one Carrier lad killed another for teasing him at not being able to win the love of an Indian girl. The dead man's relatives took the murderer for their slave, getting all his belongings. For the first time the law stepped in, and a magistrate sent the police to arrest the boy murderer. The boy was taken by force and brought to gaol to stand his trial.
