WAKATIPU DISTRICT HOSPITAL.
The monthly meeting of above institution was held' in the office of the Lake Wakatipu S. Co. on Saturday last. Present: E. T. Wing (chairman), E. C. W. Porter, J. Black and Father O'Donnell. Minutes of previous meetiug were read by the interim secretary, Mr R. Turton, and confirmed. Correspondence, etc. Outward correspondence was approved and inward received. —J. \Y. Poyuton, Public Trustee, wrote stating that a watch and chain had been sent to him, which was supposed to belong to the Est.ite of Geo. Mullis. The Chairman thought the owner was a man named Schmidt. Both men had silver watches at their death. Left in the hands of the Chairman for further enquiry into. Accounts amounting to £B4 0s Ud were brought up and passed for payment. Appointment of a new Secretary. • The trustees here dealt with the application for the position of secretary to the Board in place of Mr H. N. Firth, resigned. Two applied for the position namely, Messrs C. E. Gudgeon and F. . F. Geisow. The first-named, in his application, pointed out that he had had a considerable amount of experience as a trustee and treasurer to the Cromwell Hospital Trust. Before jcommencing to deal with the applications, Mr Black referred to the paucity of the meeting in dealing with such an important matter. He considered that there was not a quorum. The Chairman said that three constituted a quorum and produced the rules which proved such to be correct. The business then proceeded. Mr Black suggested as both applicants were estimable men, that the appointment be made by a resolution of the Board. This was agreed to. Mr Black then proposed Mr Gudgeon for the position. 1 his proposal was seconded by Father (JDonnelL The Chairman proposed Mr Geisow, being seconded by Mr Porter. The voting being equal, the Chairman gave his casting vote in favor of Mr Geisow, who was thereupon declared to be elected to the position, to the position. The report of the visiting Committee on the hospital was satisfactory. The surgeon's report showed that five patients were in the institution on the Ist June, five admitted during tho month, and four discharged, leaving six on the Ist July. Better Representation wanted. Mr J. Black referred to the necessity for getting more members on the Board as the institution was poorly represented at the present time. The Chairman said that Mr Geisow had resigned, Mr D. M'Bride hid failed to become a member owing to his having been absent for three meetings, and Sir F. M'Bride had gone Home. It was decided that Mr M'Bride be written to asking him if he will consent to again become a member ; also that the Southland County Council, for whom Mr Geisow acted, be asked to appoint another trustee in his place. A vote of thanks to the chur closed the meeting.
