MINING JOTTINGS.

Mr W. Patton, manager of the Glenrock Consolidated, Ltd., writes from Macetown, under date, April 29th, that this company cleaned up for the month of April and obtained 68oz smelted gold from 145 tons crushed. 13 tons of concentrates were treated by cyanide for a yield of smelted gold. The reef in the stopes is still very mullocky in places, and of poor quality. There is no change to report in the incline face.

The Ruston and Proctor engine intended for the Moke Creek dredge was landed on the local company's wharf at the end of last week.

The Arthurs Point dredge on Tuesday last met with a slight accident to one of the spur wheels driving the screen, but the skill of the engineer necessitated a stoppage only fur a few hours. The Morning Star dredge, Alexandra, has been again floated, and will recommence work again in a few days. The Perseverance L'urrentwheeler (commonly known as Findlay's) sank in some 15 feet of water on Friday night. This dredge has been lying idle for some two years, and it is a remarkable thing that just when her services were again to be called into requisition she should sink. It is questionable whether it will be possible to raise the dredge, and we are inclined to think that the company will not try to do so.—' Dunstan Times.'

On Saturday last, (says the ' Alexandra Herald ') five of the crew of the Chicago dredge had a narrow escape from a watery grave. It appears that the men were engaged in running a line, and when well out

in the swollen river the boat by some means capsized, and the occupants were precipitated into the water. Fortunately each of the crew had taken the precaution to don a lifejackej,, and they were thus enabled to regain terra firflia without any serious consequences. This accident tends to prove the value of life-belts, and dredgemen (who are generally averse to wearing these) should take a lesson from the ex]>erience of Chicago's .crew. Had the lifebelts not been used, there would in all probability have been some fatalities to record, as when a man is dumped into the Molyneux with his clothes and boots on, he must be a fairly strong swimmer to have much of a chance of getting out safely. The boat sank and was lost.

The Ovens Creek dredge, Victoria, w.'ished up 133ozfor three weeks' work.
