THE POWER OF GOLD.
——:::o::: Original Poetry, »y 0.E.8. ♦♦« The power of gold is a mighty power, For never a day—no never an hour, Bat human lives are bought and sold, With the mighty magical power of Gold. The man who is placed on the golden throne Has powers no monarch beside can own ; Tis a fearful risk for a man to hold— The mighty unlimited power of Gold. He bids, and his subjects laugh and weep, They traverse the land, or they plough the deep; They are humble or arrogant —fearful or bold— At the will or the whim of the Monarch of Gold. The shortest of words in the English tongue Have powers which poets have left unsung, And many a heart turns warm or cold At a "Yes" or "No" from the Monarch of Gold. In every age rich men have striven £ To purchase with gold the joys of jg| Heaven , But better the earth he never had trod Who makes the powerof GoldhisGod
