AN EASY WIN.
At Brighton in October, 1795, Sir John Lade, i very small man, tor a trifling wager, undertook to carry Lord Cholmondelej, who wis rtry tall, on his back, from oppo«ite to the Pavilion twice round the Sterne. Several ladies attended as spectators of this extraordinary feat of the dwarf carrying the giant. YVben his lordship declared himself ready, Sir Joha desired him to strip.
" Strip !" exclaimed the other ; " why, surely you proposed to carry me in my clothes."
J" By no means," replied the b»ronet; " I engaged to carry yon, but not an inch of I lothes ; so, therefore,my lord, make ready, and pet ns not disappoint tbe ladies." After much laughable altercatioa, it was at | length decided that Sir John had won his ' wager, the peer having declined to carry it out ' oa the above conditions. I
