A Fine Voice for Crying Fish.— Colonel Sandeman, of the Forfarshire Artillery Volunteers, told a story at his own expense recently when replying for the reserve forces at a Foufarshire banquet in honor of the Queen's birthday. He was riding at the head of his brigade up one of the streets, and while two bonnie fisher lasses were passing he had to give an order in loud tones. "Oh, Meggie, he's got a grand"—and the colonel expected she was to say something complimentary, but what she did conclude with was—"voice for sellin' herrin'." The soul's armour is never well set to the heart unless a woman's hand has braced it, and it is only when she braces it loosely that the honor of manhood falls.—Buskin. . . j
