THE FIRE AT SKIPPERS.
(TO THE EDITOR OF TUE LAKE WAKATIP MAIL.) Sir,—l see by last week's Mail that Mr Cooper took umbrage at some of my statements on the report re Mr Bourieau's fire. Kindly allow me to explain, for Mr Cooper's benefit, how I came by my information. On the day of the fire Mr Bonrdeau wrote a statement of the particulars and probable cause of the fire to show, as I understood from him to the insurance companies and—from that statement—l copied the report sent to you I Mr Cooper read that statement before I did, and appeared to acquiesce in Mr Bourdeau's theory as to the origin of the fire then. He could, therefore, hardly be surprised at seeing my "absolutely false theories" in your paper. I also examined the store personally at about 7 o'clock on the morning of the tire, and the damper in question was then open. Mr Cooper's reference to personal prejudice is absurd.—l am, etc., Your Skippers Correspondent. Skippers, November 2nd, 1891.
