Dunedin, this day. At Wednesday's meeting of the Land Board the land office forwarded particulars of the late J. Dewar's deferred-payment license, Lower Hawea, and it was resolved thas the land be offered for sale on the ordinary conditions.—A wood-cutter's license, Turner's Creek, Dart, over five acres, was granted to Harry Birley.—Lake County Council forwarded a list of roads on which it is proposed to expend money derived from the usual sources, and the same was approved. Since the opening of the central line traffic has so increased that four trains now run weekly to Middlemarch, and it is expected that in a few months nearly all the traffic to the interior will go that way. The Theodore steamer, on Lake Wanaka, sank at the jetty on Wednesday She was laid up when the lake was high and, the water receding, she was left dry on the beach with hvr stern in the water. The strain probably caused her to spring a leak, and it is feared thas she may slip into deep water. In the Hoose of Representatives on Wednesday night, Mr Joyce's Licensing Bill was debated, then read a second time by a majority of three votes, and was to come up again to-day, but it is not likely to be further advanced this session. Mrßees' Bill, censuring the late Government for the recent Legislative Council appointments has been read a aecond time, but this also is likely to be shelved. The second reading of Mr Hutchison's Licensing Bill was rejected by 28 to 21 votes. The Premier gave notice to introduce the Payment of Members Bill, which proposes to give members of the House £240 and councillors £l5O. A petition has been piesented by Mr Fergus, on behalf of Thomas Quill, father of the late W. Quill, praying for relief and compensation. Nothing has been done re the Agent-Generalship, though the present Agent-General leaves in October. It is undersood the debate on the Land bill will be continued to day, and, if possible concluded. The Friendly Societies amendment bill has been read a second time. This is the bill aiming at defeating tke union Company's benefit society.
