THE STEAMSHIP GREAT EASTERN.
There is every probability, we believe, of the world-renowned steamer Great Eastern being brought to Greenock, there to be dismantled. The steamer, which is at present lying: at Milford Haven, was recently purchased by a London firm for something over £20,000, and we understand it is the intention of the new purchasers to displenish'the monster steamer, and convert her into a coal hulk to be permanently stationed at Gibraltar, In order to do so, dock accommodation is necessary, to enable the heavy machinery, boilers, Ac., beiDg taken out. Consequently, applications have been made to the Greenock Harbour Trustees for details regarding the accommodation which could be provided at that port. While the breadth of the steamer is in excess of the width of the dock gates by something like two feet, it is stated that means could be adopted for floatthe vessel into the dock.
