Queenstown Main School.
The usual monthly Committee meeting of above body, was held in the School-room on Monday evening : —Messrs G. M. Ross (chairman) R. Boyne, J. Reid, D. Matheson, R. Davidson and F. W. F. Geisow (hon. secretary). Inward correspondence consisted of a letter from the Lower Shotover School Committee, asking for the loan of magic lantern for use at an entertainment to he given on the Ist proximo (to-day). It was resolved that the lantern be lent on the terms stated, provided it remained in charge of Mr J. Mehaffey.
The Master's monthly report, read and received, showed the total number on the roll to have been 141 (comprising 00 boys and 51 girls) and the average attendance 110. An application by M r Mfhaffey for a new pump was ordered to stand over.
The following accounts were brought up and passed for payment:—A Boyne, ss; W. Babbitt, 17s. Gd : cost of magic lantern £l2 15s. 7d (exclusive of £9 6d sent to London) towards which, £5 was received from the last exhibition, leaving a balance of £7 15s 7d still owing. It was proposed by Mr Matheson, seconded by Mr Reid and carried—That the school break up the Friday before Christmas Day, and that the holidays be for five weeks, counting from Monday, 25tli December.
Resolved, on the motion of Messrs Reid and Geisow —That the hon. Secretary be requested to write to the Education Board, and obtain 50 good attendance certificates (under section 79 of the Education Act) and that the Master furnish a list of the number of prizes required. It was decided, on the motion of Messrs Geisow and Davidson —That the next magic lantern performance at Queenstown, take place on New Years Day, and that the Rev. D. Ro3s be requested to lecture on the Pilgrims Progress and Missionary slides to be then exhibited ; also that, if possible, a concert bv the children be arranged by the mistress, Mrs Mefiaffey.
The Chairman was requested to arrange about engagement of the Town Hall for entertainment, and Messrs Reid and Geisow were appointed collectors for the prize fund. The meeting then adjourned, with a vote of thanks to the chair, till Thursday, the 14th instant.
