WAKATIP HOSPITAL.

An adjourned Committee meeting of above institution was held in the Board Room, Frankton, on Saturday last. Present—Messrs. C. C. Boves (president), W. Mason, H. M. Adair, J. O'kane, T. G. Betts, and H. W. Carstons. Mr Mason, in compliance with a request made at previous sitting, reported that, after examining the Hospital building, he found the east side of the roof very bad, and the western side good, and that something should be done at once towards repairing the east side. The piles were not so bad, and though decayed on the outside, they were comparatively sound in the centre. The flooring was not good, but the relaying of a new floor would be very expensive. The estimated cost was given of an iron roof, guttering, and ridging, and other carpenters' work, two tanks, etc. Mr Mason kindly offered to draw up specifications for the work if the Committee decided upon entering into it. Jm The report was received with thanks. Vq After a short discussion it was resolved, on the motion of Messrs Betts and O'Kaue—That tenders be called for roofing all the eastern side of the building ,and other work recommended by Mr Mason; and that Mr Mason's offer to drew np specification be accepted with thanks. Ordered that tenders for the week be called at once and advertised in the Lake Wakatip Mail and Arrow Observer. Some conversation took place as to the ways and means, when it was proposed by Mr Adair —That the Government be written to, informing them that the Committee not being in a position to erect a new building—and after having the present building carefully surveyed, and finding that it is in a better condition then previously anticipated —has decided that if the sum of £4OO be expended in repairing the present roof and making other repairs, it will be some years before any further expenditure is required, and —while reminding the Government of a lot promised to subsidise a new building—to ask that the sum of £2OO (being one-half of the intended expenditure) would be placed at the disposal of the Committee to assist them in the work. Seconded by Mr Carston, and carried. A vote of thanks to the chair terminated the proceedings.
