EXTRAORDINARY APPEARANCE OF A FIREBALL.
A gentleman at Longford sends the Examiner the following : —" On Tuesday, 9th inst., when it was getting dark, Mr Richard Saltmarsh's daughter \vi\s on her way home fioin Sand ridge and her mother was waiting for her outside the door of her house, when both saw a ball of fire about the size of a large pudding basin, with a tail projecting upwards travelling along slowly at a height of about 15 feet from the ground. It proceeded in the direction of Sundridge, opposite to that of the little girl, passing over her at nearly her height from the ground. She was so alarmed as to fall to the ground, and, after rising and reaching home, she was in a very frightened state. The ball rose again and passed on towards Sandridge, over the house and past the cottages and was not seen any further. The ball was bluish, combined with the color of a candle fl;«me, and emitted sparks with a hissing noise. This information was received from a gentleman who had it from the family and is therefore reliable."
