London, November 10. At the Lord Mayor's banquest last night Mr Gladstone alluded to the Ashantee difficulty. The friendly chiefs are supporting Major Geueral Wolsely against the Ashantees. New South Wales won the Intercolonial Rifle Match, beating Victoria by 65 point* and New Zealand by 103. The highest scorers for New Zealand were Small and < 'hristie. 85 each ; for Victoria, Whalley 89, Hannay 88; and for Sydney, Freeman 91, Lamb 90. The shooting was generally, indifferent. The New Zealand men found totally different local conditions to what th y had been accustomed at the range. The total scores were—Sydney, 1,58»; Victoria, 1,521 ; New Zealand, 1,483.
