"HOSPITAL SUNDAY" IN MELBOURNE.
As our telegrams told us, the hospital Sunday movement— which we would like to see inaugurated in Dunedin—was very successful, and with the proceeds of the Hospital f-aturday fund, to which the Citv firms and their employed contribute, will yield over L 4.000 for distribution among the charities of the Victorian metropolis. Of the results of this appeal, we read that among the fixed congregations, that of Chalmer's Church headed the list with the handsome contribution of MOO; Scots' Church, Collins street, took second place with L 93 ; and the next best contributions were : Rev. Mr Henderson's church, LB7; •'ll Saints, St. Kilda, L7B; St. Francis' (Roman Catholic), L 7 2; Collins street Baptist Church, L 67 ; St. Peter's, L 66 ; and St. Patrick's (Roman Catholic), 1.64. It should be mentioned that St. Francis'contributed LI 18totheMelbourne Hospital on Good Friday. In theevening4,ooo peopie listened to the Rev. Mr Clark at the Theatre Royal, where a collection of Ll4O (the largest of the day) was made; at the afternoon service of the Town Hall by Bishop Perry, LlO6 15s sdwas received ; at the volunteer parade at East Melbourne, L4B. Collections were made at 180 places of worship, and boxes were placed at the entrances to the public gardens. According to churches, the collections were :—Church of I ngland, 1749; Koman Catholic, L 220 ; Presbyterians, L 643 ; Independents, L 253 ; Baptist, LI84; Tv r esleyan, L 286; Jewish, L 130; Welsh, LIT; Unitarians, Ll6 ; mis cellaneous churches, L 14 3; at volunteer parades, &c , L 428.
