COACH ACCIDENT.

A remarkable accident happened on the 6th inst., to the coach when on its passage from Dunedin to Oamaru. The affair took place when the coach was crossing the Range. In substance the reports of the travellers agree, but so great was their excitement that they do not, we believe, pledge themselves as to the accuracy of the details of the narrative. It appears that one of the horses got his leg over the traces, and, after a while, set himself free ; but he soon became entangled again, and commenced to kick violently. His kicking frightened the othsr horses, and they started off down the Range. As fast as they could gallop tbe> plunged down the steep descent On arriving at the bottom, the coach came into collision with a bank or cutting and capsized. The driver was pitched off and one of his arms was broken, and he received several wounds on the head, and a lady who was also on the box received a shock and some severe superficial injuries. Excepting the driver, and excepting the inevitable shock, no other serious accident happened. The coach itself is severely damaged, and the horses were more or le3S hurt, but not seriously. The driver received immediate attention, and the lady, who had a most narrow escape, is now enjoying the hospitality of a local acquaintance. The proceeded in another coach, which, strange to say, also had an accident., as the king-bolt gave way. This second mishap was rectified immediately, and all the passengers are now safe in the district, thankful for an apparently miraculous escape from a great dinger.—North Otago Times.
