A new Ministry has been formed, constituted as follows: Mr Whittaker,—Attorney General and Premier. Mr Russell,—War Minister. Mr Gillies.—Postmaster General, to reside for the present in the Middle Island. The gunboats bad commenced an attack on Mere Mere from the Waikato river. Three thousand Maoris were supposed to be engaged in the defence of Mere Mere.
