QUEENSTOWN IMPROVEMENT COMMITTEE.

A meeting was held on Wednesday evening at the Albion Hotel. Present;—Mr Harris (chair* man), and Messrs. Powell, Gibson, Weaver, CoUiiskey, Ryan, and M'Gaw. Mr. Harris stated that as the public entertained doubts regarding the legality of their election, he thought it would be a subject for their consideration whether they had better not resign their position and request the residents of Queenstown to elect another body. He was authorised by the absent members to say that they would agree to such a course. Moved by Mr. Weaver, and seconded by Mr.

Gibson: —" That the members of this Committee not being duly elected by the inhabitants of Queenstowh, do hereby resign their trtTsf." Mr. M'Gaw thought the trust should be resigned into the hands of a public meeting. The Chairman—To whom shall be tender our resignation ? Mr. Powell considered they ought to be careful in what they did. Several members supported the opinion that their resignation should be placed before the public by advertisement in the Walcatip Mail and at a public meeting. The original motion was finally adopted. Mr. M'Gaw s«id that other steps should be taken beyond the resolution just cairied, and he would move " That a public meeting be called, and that the preceding resolution be put before it, and that the chairman of this meeting be empowered to call a meeting for that purpose." This resolution was secondtd by Mr. Couiiskey and carried. No other resolutions being proposed, the chairman vacated his seat. PRELIMINARY MEETING. It was decided in consequence of a previous announcement, and several wishing to take part in the proceedings to hold another meeting for the purpose of considering how a new Improvement Committee should be constituted. Mr. Harris was re-elected Chairman, and stated the results arrived at on the previous meeting. He would advise them to throw out suggestions and form a Sub-Committee to carry them out. After a continued discussion, in which Messrs. M'GdW, Luscombe, Shepherd, Manders, Rees, Cass, and others took part, it was resolved that the Sub-Oommittee consist of—Messrs. M'Gaw, Shepherd, Harris, and Comiskey, and that they should be empowered to draw out the resolutions to be submitted to a meeting duly called of the residents of Queenstown on Monday next
