LATEST AUSTRALIAN TELEGRAMS.
(From the Age, Sept. 11.) New South Wales.—Sydney, 9th September —A petitition has been presented to the Legislative Assembly from the owners of half the sheep in the colony, praying that the provision, rendering compulsory the destruction of scabby sheep, may not be passed into law. It is currently rumored that the Ministry will be defeated, and a dissolution will take place. O'Me.illy robbed Mr. Malton nrar Jugiong, yesterday. Queensland.—Brisbane, 7th" September.— The Rockhampton papers represent the Peak Down diggings to be very prosperous. The captain of the Williams, from Rockhampton, reports the discovery of a rich gold reef thirty miles from Rockhampton. Three men got four hundred ounces in seven weeks. The Winterthur and Beausite arrived to-day with immigrants.
South Australia.—Adelaide, 7th September. —An address and a purs" of 600 sovereigns have been presented to the chief inspector of sheep in recognition of his services in the total eradication of scab from the colony—September Bth. A despatch was laid upon the table to-day, consenting to a detachment of the 40th Regiment proceeding to New Zealand. Temporary arrangements have been made to supply the placi of the troops here.
