THE WARDEN AT THE ARROW.
To the Editor of the Lake Wakatip Mail. Sir, —Permit me through your columns to express my utter disgust, together with that of my fellow diggers, at the appointment of Hardcastle to the Wardenship of the Arrow.
That the inhabitants of this district have been insulted is not for one moment to be doubted. If .Hardcastle's preceptors wanted to pitchfork him into office, they should have had sufficient discretion to send him where he was not previously known in such an unenviable position as that occupied by him on the Arrow. lam glad to find that action is about to be taken by the storekeepers, who propose holding a meeting to consider the matter. I can assure them that they will have the hearty co-operation of the diggers. It is high time the clique of Branigan & Co. should be broken up. I would recommend that the matter be laid before Sir George Grey, but I have no doubt the matter will be fully gone into, and all necessary steps taken to express in unmistakeable terms our disapprobation of the breach of privilege so glaringly exercised in this instance.
I would not be at all astonished that the next thing we shall hear, will be that Mr. Champ of the Victorian Penal Department be applied to for a well conducted long-sentence man from Pentridge. lam, Sir, Your obedient Servant, Anothek Digger. Arrow River, August 11,1863.
