HOSPITAL MEETING AT FRANKTON.
A public meeting was held on Mondayevening last, the 3rd instant, at the Kawarau Hotel, Frankton, to elect a Provisional Committee for the Hospital; Richmond Beetham, Esq., R. M., in the chair. Mr. Beetham said he had much pleasure in informing the residents of Frankton that this was the third meeting that he had convened for the purpose of organizing a provisional committee to act until the general committee of management were duly elected. The residents of Queenstown and the Arrow had earnestly and cordially exerted themselves in this good object, and he was sure the residents of Frankton would display equal zeal. He would state that an annual subscription of £1 would entitle them to a vote at the general meeting for election of committee; or a donation of not less than £lO. He would also state that for everypound collected the Government subsidised two, so that £IOO collected would be in reality £3OO to the good of that institution.
Messrs. Reilley, Williamson, Allert, Taylor, Dewes, Henderson, and Paterson, were then duly proposed, seconded, and declared elected as members of the provisional committee. Proposed by Mr. Mitchell, seconded by Mr. Taylor, that Mr. Williamson do act as treasurer.
Proposed by Mr. Reilly, seconded by Mr. Searle, that Mr. Dewes be treasurer. Mr. Taylor then suggested that a subscription list be at once opened, which was agreed to.
Mr. Beetham said—As there is such an immense amount of sickness at present, it M as deemed expedient to open one of the wards at once, although only partially completed, that some temporary alleviation might be accorded to the numerous applicants. Dr. Pelley will be stationed at Frankton forthwith. At an early date a day will be appointed for the election of the general committee, which will be duly advertised in the Mail. I have to congratulate you all on the success of these meetings generally, and the very handsome pecuniary results of this evening. I am glad to find such a commendable rivalry exist among you all as to which shall do the most good or be most useful to this institution —an institution to which all may come —men of every nation and every creed; and I
sincerely hope, with the blessing of Almighty God, our efforts will be crowned with success. A vote of thanks to the Chairman was then proposed by Mr. Taylor, seconded by Mr. Williamson, and the meeting dissolved.
