The necessity for a bridge over the creek near the camp received an additional illustration a few days back, during the late heavy rains. A gentleman, endeavoring to cross it on horseback, led his Rosinante by mishap into a particularly boggy place, when, finding himself fixed in the mud, the noble steed began to plunge, and eventually succeeded in shooting his unfortunate rider over his head on to dry land. With some difficulty the horse was extricated, and as the gentleman went away, an occasional mutter, and an occasional dig with his heels, expressed his opinion both of the horse and the Government who are too parsimonious to build a bridge. Some idea of the force with which we are occasionally visited by iEolus may be formed by the fact thaton Friday week, the Pride of Tremore accomplished the voyage from the head of the Lake to Queenstown —a distance of 45 miles—in three hours and a a half, having successively carried away every sail on board. "Whisky Tom" wishes the public to be informed that the gold shown by his mate at Bracken's Hotel on the 24th instant, was obtained six or seven months ago between Stony Creek and Skipper's. A faux pas occurred ou Thursday last, which, however amusing to the lookers-on, must have been rather disagreeable to the unfortunate sufferer. An official not wholly unknown to the inhabitants of this township, was about springing from the rail of a steamer on to the jetty, when the rail broke, and precipitated him headforemost into the Lake, whence after a series of plunges that would have moved the heart of a Newfoundland dog to envy, he was with safety withdrawn. A meeting is advertised to be held at the Golden Age Hotel, Arrow, this evening, for the purpose of forming a Provisional Committee for the Wakatip District Hospital. An inquest • was held yesterday at the Big Beach, on the body of Joseph Barston, of Skipper's Gully, Shotover, when a verdict was returned of " Found drowned " A full report of the inquest will be given in our next. It is reported that six out of seven men have been killed by a landslip between Moke Creek and Arthur's Point, which occurred on Thursday night last. Confirmatory particulars, however, have not yet reached us.
