NEW RUSH ON SWANSTON'S STATION, NEAR SWITZER's DIGGINGS.

(From the Invercargill Times, July 24.)

A few days since a rumor was current in town to the effect that a rush of considerable magnitude had taken place to one of the runs on the Wakaia, occupied by Mr. Swanston. Later intelligence tends to confirm the report. There is at present on the ground a population of from four to five hundred miners, and in many instances payable claims have been opened. The sinking is very shallow and the gold coarse. The new rush may be described as a continuation of the old Switzer's diggings, from which it is distant about six miles, and from the nature of the intervening country it is probable that the two will eventually join. Yesterday evening two men arrived in town, en route to Victoria, with the intention of returning with their mates. With one of these men we are well acquainted, and see no reason for doubting the truth of the information he has given us. He says that some months since, while travelling to Switzer's diggings, he picked up on the surface of the ground five small specks of gold and a larger piece weighing 3dwts. 12grs., and was in consequence, induced to prospect the locality, in company with two or three acquaintances. Since then the party has done well. From other sources we have also been furnished with a certain amount of information, the more reliable because, for reasons, it was re-

luctantly given; but in order that there j shall be no misunderstanding in the matter a | special reporter from our office will at once j visit the ground, and his statement will be i published in our next issue. For the information of new arrivals wc publish the best route to be taken to the new rush:— Miles.
