The Late Mubdeb at Mitchell Downs, Mabanoa. —Writing from Toowoomba, on the Ist inst., our correspondent says: —" A paragraph appeared in the local papers some four months ago about an old man who passed throgh the town on horseback, loaded with guns, revolvers, and pistols, sundry small bundles, pots, and pans, and a good-sized dog, all on the poor horse. That old grey-headed villain was the murderer of poor Mr. Davidson, superintendent for Messrs, Morey and Co., of the Maranoa, which said intelligence reached town on Thursday morning last. It appears that the old man found employment on the station as a shepherd, and it having come to the knowledge of Mr. Davidson that he was not watering the sheep properly, Mr. Davidson went to look for him and speak to him about the matter. The old man was not just then to be found, as he had left and went to another hut. Mr. Davidson, however, came across him, and while speaking to him the old wretch drew one of his pistols, and deliberately fired at him. The old villain made his escape, and had not been taken at the time the mail left. The name of the murderer is Michael Thurley; age, about seventy; height about five feet seven inches; very long white beard all over his face, which hangs over his breast, and long white hair on his head, which hangs over his neck.—Queensland Guardian. An Irishman called in great haste upon Dr. Abernethy, stating that, "Be dad! me boy Tim has swallowed a mouse." " Then, be dad !" said the doctor, " Tell your boy Tim to swallow a cat."
