ASHBURTON TECHNICAL SCHOOL.
The annua! breaking-up ceremony of tho Ashburton 'Technical School was held yesterday afternoon, the chairman oi tho Board of Managors, Mr C. Roid, presiding. In tho course of his address, the chairman gave the following roll numbers for t'ha year:— Free pupils 228, compulsory pupils 80, paying pupils 174, shearing pupils 10. The total number of technical students was 492, as against a total of 439 last year. A total of OOt primary and High School students attended for instruction in manual training. Altogether 1096 students were on the school rdll. 'The director, Mr R. J. Thompson, and Mr T. Bullock also addressed the gathering. The following ie the prize-list:— DAY SCHOOL. Oil engines—Jack Boucher. Applied mechanics—Jock Boucher. Machine drawing—Jack Bouoher. Magnetism end electricity—Jack Boucher. Metalwork—Jack Boucher. Mathematics—Cyril Evans. Geometrical drawing—Jack Boucher. Special prize given by Mr Dawson for consistent work in engineering subjects—George Old*. Cookery—First year, Ellen Rountree 1, Alice Keen 2, Nora Clark 8; second year, Harriet Jones 1, Eileen Nish 2. Special prizes given by Miss Loy—Bessie Stewart, Mabel McDonald. Home nursing—Ellen Rountree 1, Muriel Oakley 2. Spocial prize given by Miss Loy—Winnie M’Kenzio. Mr Hopkins's special for sustained effort throughout the year—Boy, Oharlea Blee; girl, Sarah Joyle. Mr Jones'* special for attendance—Boy, George Gale; girls, Myrtle Wilson and Muriel Phelps. Attendance prizes—Florence Little, Lena Leslie and Harriet Jones. . Mr George W.
