A gold nugget, weighing 154 ounces, has been found in the Bathurst district. _ The Legislative Council read a second time the Increase to Salaries Bill. By 28 to 10 the third reading was carried on the voices without amendment. In the Assembly Air Cann, introducing the 44-Hour Bill, said that eighty industries were already working fortyfour hours. He urged employers and employoes where practicable to mutually arrange to work a little longer each day and abolish Saturday work. The second reading was carried on the voices.
The Assembly amended the Fair Rent Bill to provide that owners of houses must go to the Court for permission before raising rents of houses.
MELBOURNE. December 10. Sir Joseph Cook denied the cable stating that the Commonwealth is contemplating a. ten million loan. The Commonwealth Shipowners’ Association has decided to grant an eighthour day to stewards and pantrymen.
