The Nationalist Party programme proclaims tho following principles:—Economic independence, the right of which, however, will not be exercised with only a temporary majority in Parliament (at present there is no party with a permanent majority) until after a special referendum ; the complete control of natives within the Union; the segregation of natives: and the repatriation of imported coolies.
Speaking at a function in Johannesburg in honour of the Chief Rabbi, General Smuts referred hopefully to the lieaaue of Nations, which he described as tho first step towards the realisation of the vision of the.prophet Isaiah, threethousand years ago. Isaiah did not see Geneva, but perhaps Geneva was only the halfway house to Jerusalem.
