ANNIVERSARY SERVICES.

The. ninth . anniversary of the Clarence Hoad Methodist Sunday School was celebrated on Sunday, tho Ferrioos tfeing held in the Biccarton Town Hall for tho greater comfort of the largo congregations. The preachers for the day were tho Revs BUmires, Copeland, and A. 11. Fowles (the resident minister). The singing of special hymns and anthems by the scholars was quite a feature, reflecting the utmost credit upon tho conductor, Mr Hough, and Miss Snowball, organist. At each of tho three services there were solos, .duets, or recitations by the children. The foetivities continued on Tuesday, tho annual scholars’ tea preceding a public meeting in tho church, presided over by tho Rev A. H. Fowles Mr C. Virtue, the superintendent, prosonted the annual report, showing sound progress, although She unusually large volume of home-changing this year had robbed the district of several Methodist families. The school had done particularly well in the Canterbury Methodist Union's annual exam inations, securing eleven passes and eight prizes (over 75 per cent of marks). The teachers had been consistently loyal, and wero entitled to the parents' best thanks. The scholars worked enliusiairtically, end attended Tegulnrly. The Junior Christian Endeavour oontinued successfully, and the Young ■Worshippers’ League maintained its strength. It was hoped to procure kindergarten eeats for the infant classes in tho Sunday School. A lengthy programme was contributed by the children, comprising vocal • solos by Jessie, Isabel and Maym M'Lean, Or ace Miles, Grace, Elsie and Ida Staples, Charlie Barrell; duet, Roy and Noel Campbell; recitations, Doris Archbald, Joy Rauston. Kerwin Staples, Ray Barrell end Ranui Freeborn; a ekctch, “ Mrs Smith’s Tea," by six girls. Prizes wore presented ns follows, awarded for attendance, lessons, conduot. and tablet work;—Class 1, girls Graoo Staples 1, Elsie Staples 2; boys, Charlie Barrell V Eric Law 2, • Arthur M’Lean 3. Class 2, girls: Ray Barrell 1, Ida Staples 2, Grace Miles 8, Eunice Patrick 4 ; boys, Charles Rylatt 1, Eric GribWo 2. Class 3, girls: Jessie M’Lean 1, Lily Rylatt 3. Juniors, Donald Bates 1, Ruth Blake 2 Primary department, Ranui Freeborn 1, Kerwin Staples 2, Doris Barson 8. Edith Barson 4, Terris Bovd 5, Sadie Gribble 6, and sixteen other prizes.
