The High Court delivered an important decision in the, test case regarding duties levied on imported Continental goods. The Customs Department had been levying upon what amounted to a pre-war face vuluo of foreign coinage. Merchants contended that the Department should levy on tho presentday equivalent values of goods in the British money market. Tho Court, by a majority, decided against tho Customs Department.
