During the Federal Parliamentary delegation’s visit to Canberra, Mr Hughes announced that the policy ot the~ Government was to expeditiously proceed with the construction of the Federal capital. There was an acrimonious debate in the Assembly over Mr Henley’s motion to provide against the detention of persons in any institutions against their will, and with penalties for infringement of the liberty of the subject. A section ot the House accepted the Bill as aimed at convents. Mr ,Miimhan declared: “ If you in any way interfere with those Catholic institutions there will be a mess' up here worse than that which occurred on the plains of Flanders.”
