It is estimated that it will cost £2,000,000 to stamp out typhus in Poland alone. The League's appeal for subscriptions only reached £220,000, of which Garmanv contributed one million paper marks. Dr Madson, a Danish member of the International Mission, gives a distressing aocount of affairs in Poland. He found that every house in some villages was infected with six or seven eases. The difficulty in combating the epidemio was the lack of isolation hospitals. Both typhus and cholera were epidemio over the whole of Poland. The cholera victims died within twelve hours of taking tho diseaso. The clean parts of Europe wore greatly menaced, and therefore the matter waß of international importance. Sir James Allen, addressing the Second Commission, which deals with the subject of hygiene, said he had communicated details to his Government in tho hope that the people of New Zealand, with the. Government's assistance, would render help.
