Mr Justice Pring opens an inquiry on Monday into allegations of graft in connection with the Georgesou Wheat Inquiry. Hie Anglican Synod passed a resolution against prohibition, but urged tho peoplo to mako a close, study of the liquor problem with a view to reforming tho trade. Tho Commission recommends that tho salaries of mombers of Parliament shall bo £875, of Ministers £1945, of tho At-torney-General £2095. and of tho Premier ' £2445. (This is in correction of a previous message.) Tho Labour caucus adopted the recommendations, and also commensurate increases for tho Speaker and chairman of committees, and recommended that n Bill to give effect to the proposals immediately be introduced to Parliament. The increases in Ministers’ and members’ salaries involve an additional annual expenditure of £50,000.
