SPORTING.

NEWS AND NOTES. Nominations for the Westport Trotting Club's meeting wilh close this evening. Acceptances for the Methven Racing Clnb b meeting are due this evening. Acceptances for the Forbury Park Trotting Club's meeting are due this evening. The South Canterbury Jockey Cluß's meeting will he commenced to-day and concluded to-morrow, and it looks like providing some excellent sport, as most of the fields will he large and of good c-llnss. Christchurch visitors will be. able to reach the course for the opening event on the first day by the south express, while on the second day there will be a special train returning the same night. The nominations received yesterday for the New Brighton Trotting Club 8 Summer meeting are highly satisfactory in every way. Numerically they are very large, but ah even greater cause for congratulation arises from the high quality which is represented in the list, nearly all the best performers from local stables claiming engagements. The action of the club in catering liberally for the unh op-pled trotters has been amply rewarded, the 4.44, race having attracted twelve horses, the beet that could be got together, and there should be an exceptionally interesting contest. A meeting of the committee of the Ellesmere County Trotting Clnb was held at Leestbn on Saturday night, the president (Mr P. Lelarsey) presiding. The president said that the main business of the meeting was to appoint representatives to meetT the commission appointed to go into the question of increasing. the number of permits. The commission would probably visit the district and see th© course. It was very desirable that the representatives of tho club should meet the commission, also that the EMesmere JDomain Board should be approached with a view of ascertaining the extent to which it would go in regard to improvements to the course and appointments. The president and Messrs F. Rowell, S. Johnston, J. H. Prosser and the secretary were appointed a committee to meet the commission and furnish information on behalf of the club. The treasurer presented a statement of accounts which showed a credit balance of £26 16s sd. He pointed out thatabout £6O or more of the expenses, in connection with the last race. meetfftg would not be a recurring expenditure. Owing to his leaving the district the treasurer (Mr Power) tendered his resignation, which was accepted with regret.

All racing and trotting clubs proposing to apply for totalisator licenses under .the'gaming Acts, 1908 and 1909. should make application to the Minister of Internal Affairs not later than December 6, in order that such applications may be considered by the Commission.
