ADDINGTON YARDS.

YESTERDAY'S) METROPOLITAN MARKET. BEEF AND MUTTON DOWN. There were large entries in all departments at the Addington yards yesterday, particularly fat cattle, sheep and lambs. Lambs showed a decided drop on recent rates. There was tho usual attendance of buyers and farmers. '■ FAT CATTLE.

The entry comprisod 342 head, mostly good prime steers. At tho commencement of the sale bidding was slack and beef showed a further decline ■in sympathy with the price of hides. The following graziers were represented:—Sir George Clifford (Stonyhurst), Mr R. Birdling (Catoon's Bay), A. E. Birdling (Birdling's Flat), F. Leonardo (Le Bon's Bay), E. Hay (Pigeon Bay), J. C. Hay (Pigeon Bay), T. Thompson (Little River), Lyndon Estate (Waiau). Six particularly fine steers were entered by Mr A. E. Birdling. They were thoroughly finished end were so-me of the nicest .beasts seen in the yarda for some time past. Values were as under:—! 1

DAIRY CATTLE. Thero was a larsre entry of dairy cattle, tho' domand for which, however, was not keen. Values ware: Good cows, to £22 10s. Good heifers, to £lB. Good seoond-calvors, £IQ to £2O. Medium and aged oows, to £G 12s. Small and inferior, £5 upwards.

STORE CATTLE. A largo entry was submitted, the quality being somewhat mixed. A good pen of two nnd a half-year-olds sold at £ll Ss. Quotations : 15-month steers, £4 7s Gd to £5. ?S-month heifers, £6 15s. Hulls, to £l3. VEALERS. A fairly good supply of veal calves was forward, and prices were weaker. Values were as follow: Runners, to £8 Gs. i Good vealers, to £7 2s 6d. Medium vealers, to £4 16s. Inferior oalves, 10s to £2 2s 6d. FAT SHEEP. The yarding comprised ten full races, slightly more than last week. The weak skin and wool position was reflected in the market, which was about 5s a head lower than last week. Tho market opened at practically this decrease, and as it progressed sales were difficult to moke, particularly for woolly shoep, the bulk of which were passed. In cases where sheep wero hold over from tho preceding eale the bidding was lighter. Thero was some good quality shoep forward, particularly owes, a draft of 110 shorn, forwarded by Mr L. White (Balready), bringing 36s 4d to 44a. Included in the yarding was a consignment of Chatham Islands sheep. Tho range of values was as follows: Extra prime shorn wethers to 50a>. Primo shorn wethers, 85s to 4'2s. Medium shorn wethers, 30a to 34s Gd. Light, and unfinished shorn wethers, 26s Gd to 29s Gd. Extra primo shorn ewes to 445. Primo shorn ewes, 31s 9d to 3o». Medium shorn ewes, 26s to 31s. Light and unfinished shorn ewes, 19s Cd to 25s 6d.

Prime woolly ewes, 35s to 38s. Medium woolly ewes, 28s 6d to S4s Gd. Light and unfinished woolly ewes, 26s 9d to 28s.

There was a big increase in the vardina of fat lambs, which comprised about 800 compared with 287 last weok. The entry was" much boyond butchers' requirements, and there was a substantial drop in prices, a big proportion of the yarding bringing little over freezing rates. All round tho decline would be equal to quite 6s a head The big entry of beef and mutton was also a factor in influencing the droj,. Butchers, however, have been paying quite exceptional prices for lamb for somo sales, and the recession in prices only brought values to practically a standard basis. There were some fine quality lambs forward, notably a pen of a dozen from Mr T. Burgin (Swannanoa), which brought 37s Sd, and a draft from Mr A. Greenwood, including prize-

STORE SHEEP. There was a fairly large entry of store sheep, inoltiding a fair number of Chatham Island and Marlborough sheep. Most of the «ntry was out of the wool and was of a fairly mixed description. The sale opened rather weakly, but livened up as it progressed. There was an almost spirited bidding for forward wethers, but ewes and lambs did not soil as well as at recent sales. Values were as follow: Woolly half-bred four-tooth wethers 36s 4d. Shorn four and six-tooth wetherß 25s 3d to 29s lOd. Inferior woolly four and ehc-tooth wethers 26s 6d. Inferior shorn four-tooth wethers 21s 7d to 22s 6d. Dry two, four and six-tooth ewes 24s 6d. Woolly hoggots 25s lOd to 265, Sound-mouthed ewes and lambs 21s 4d to 235. Aged ewes and lambs 15s lOd to 19s Od. Shorn wether hoggots 20s 4d t0.21s 9<L Shorn ewe. hoggets 24s 3d. Small woolly ewe hoggets 24s 4d. Hoggotts—;22 mixed sen at 255, 74 mixed sex phorn at 23s sd, 72 wethers at 21s. 71 nhorn ewes at 24s 3d, 115 ewes at 24s 4d, 70 wethers at 265, 79 wethers at 25s lOd, 70 wethers at ,25s lOd, 295 shorn wethers at 26s 4d. ' PIGS. There was a large entry of fat pigs, including a lot of litrht-weight pigs, but the demand was slacker and prices fell away considerably. Values fluctuated considerobly, especially for porkers, which opened well, but declined towards the close of the sale. Values were as follow: Choppers £8 to £ll 16s. Extra heavy baconers to £8 7s. A large entry of store pigs was forward, and in sympathy with fat pigs pricea wore very much weaker. Few large stores were forward. Price 3 were as follow: Best stores to £■{ fls.
