The "Sydney Morning Herald," dealing with the naval position in thu Pacific, characterises it as grave. lfc points out that all the cruisers of the Australian fleet are obsolete, that with the exception of the destroyers and submarines recently presented by the Imperial Government, Australia has no Up-to-date vessels, and that while tho Commonwealth depends entirely for national protection upon the British Fleet, there is not a single dry dock or floating dock, in the Pacific, capable of accommodating a hattlnship or a battlecruiser of the British Navy.
