BANK NOTES STOLEN.
WARNING TO THE PUBLIC. FP£R Press Association.) WELLINGTON, November 24. Five hundred Union Bank of Australia £1 notes, which are missing, are stated officially to have been stolen while in transit from Wellington to the hank's Gisborne branch. They were forwarded on Tuesday, November 18, in a registered packet through the post, but failed to reach their destination. It was subsequently found that a bag or registered mail matter had been tampered with on the steamer between Napier and Gisborne. The notes had not been issued and were n" 5 Thev bear the numbers from 131,501 to 1321000, preceded by "4" over the. Jotter "N." The bank has advertised the loss and announces that it cannot honour the notes if presented..
