MARSHLAND. Tho anniversary celebrations of th,. Marshland Methodist Sunday School were favoured by ideal weather on Sunday last. Tho morning servico was conducted by Mr J. Voss, the afternoon by the Rev H. Spencer, and the evening service by the Kov 'W. Grigg, a former pastor of tIA church. There were good congregations throughout tho day, nnd an augmented choir, under the capable leadership of Miss A. M. Goodman, rendered a number of musical selections, Mr A. Cusworth assisting with the violin. Solos were contributed by Mcsdames Godmnn and Richard, Misses Johnson and Voice, and Mastor Godman; a duet by Mrs Rickard and Miss Grose; a trio by Mcsdames Godman and Rickard and Mr Godman; and a quartet by Mrs Rickard, Misses Grose and Johnson and Al.r Godman. At the. conclusion of th P afternoon servico prizes gained by tlio scholars were distributed by Mr J. Goodman, tho superintendent of tho school. Thu collections for the day constituted a record. ASHBURTON. The annual shows of the Methven nnd Mayfield A. and P. Associations have both been arranged for the same date, March 31, 1321, owing to an unfortunate misunderstanding. Delegates from both bodies met in Ashburton yesterday to discuss the matter and ondoavour to avoid the clash. Tho Methyeu representative will report to his association on tho deliberations nnd in tho meanwhilo Mavfield is adhering to tho, original dnto. Improvements to tho Ashburton Swimming Baths have been commenced. A wooden dam is being constructed about seventy-five yards from the springboard, with the idea of preventing rubbish and sediment silting up the pool. The intention is to provide a clear course of 75vds for swimming purposes. Mr D. W. Teppctt, who haR boen superintendent of the Timvald salcynrds since their establishment in 1892, has resigned the position. Yesterday’s was 1’ ? Inst aalo at which ho carried out his duties. MAIREHAU. During the season three euchre matches havo been played between the Ouruhia and Mairehau districts, th™ last one, played at Mairehau, resulting in a win for Ouruhia l>v one point, which gave that district two wins out of three. Mr W. P. Spencer (Ouruliin) and Mr \V. J. Walter (Mairehau) spoke of tho great enjoyment derived from these friendly games between tho two • districts. During the evening Mr L. 11. Wilson who has been supervisor of tho games, and also of the weekly games at Mairehau, was presented with ’a case of pipes with a silver plate nttnohed, inscribed “L. IT. Wilson, from Mairehau sports.” Speeches were made by Mr W. J. Walter who made the presen- . tation, and Messrs W. P. Spencer, j. Clcland and J. Dunlop, all of whom spoke ill tho highest prais™ of Mr Wilson for the mapper in which ho had carried out his duties as supervisor.
