The final of the Sydney Handicap win rowed on the Parramatta in fine weather, and resulted: —Towns, 45sec, 1; Short' lOsec, 2; Felton, scr, 3; Barry, acr. 4. WO2l by two lengths, with a length between second and third, the same distance separating third ■ar*d. fourth. Time —llmin HJsoc. A pood start. Barry was slowest off the marlC tho stern of his boat being caught in a whirlpool caused by the propellers of n ferry steamer. Felton passed the umpire a length ahead of the Englishman, but.in Vhe nest few strokes thej.were' level. After passing Mortlake it was" apparent that the finish would bo between Towns, Short, Felton, and Barry. Over tho last two hundred yards Short made a brilliant effort to overtake Towns, but the ex-champion, although in his fifty-third year, -and though it waa a hard rowed race waß ablo to spurt and cross the line a winner. Felton and Barry were rehandicapped owing to the short distance, but tho result proved that the latter is fast over any course. Although he eased up twioo passing roygh patches, he finished only a length behind Felton. Consolation Handicap—The first heat waa won by Arnat in llmin 14sec. Within a couple of hundred yards of the finish Arnst raced to tho front and was not afterwards troub'ed, and flashed over the line like a champion. He did not compete in the final, which resulted:—M'Devitt and Kent dead heat; Messenger third. Time—llmin 2|seo.
