In the House of Commons, General Sir Sam Hughes, former Minister of Defence, declared that a British general kicked General Sir Arthur Currie, commanding a Canadian division in France, out of a dugout near Ypres. General Hughes said that if ho had remained Minister a few weeks longer the resignation of General Currio would have been demanded. Brigadier-General William Griesbach. commanding tho Forty-ninth Canadian Battalion during the war, defended General 'dime's conduct while commander of the Canadian Division.
