Tho lollowing were awarded the proficiency certificates:—Ctaronco H. Clemens, Alfred E. bummerfiold, Clyde W. bmith, Lawrence W. Clarkson, Frank S. Taylor (Few Brighton), Verna Suckling, Gwendolyn Bowring (Girls’ High Schooif, Frank Andrews, John Chittenden, Scdley Wells and Arthur Barton ('technical School). Elementary certificates were awarded to: —Phyllis B. Montgomery, Kitty C. F. Bullen, Francis M. Actou-Adams, Elaine W. Lockie, Betty E. Macdonald, Gweudolin G. Lavie (Miss Gibson’B School), Loonard Cosgrove, Herbert Gnsson and Franklyn Wootton (West Christchurch), Thomas Kearns, Harold Parish, Leslie Wilkinson and Reginald Ayrey (Normal), Allen Perry (St Albans), Colin Logie, Vaughan Ballinger, Allen Cooksoil, Raymond Wilton (Linwood), Doris Koemer, Kathleen Dykes, Florence Ford, Ebio Fislior, Noelino Gray (East Christchurch), Mnrgaret Lament. Christina. Shaw, Ellen O’Connell, Mary Schou, Bessie Walker. Ethel Tapper, Ella I<ovo (Weßt Christchurch), Mnrgarot Angus and Gwendoline Brain (Opawa). Accounts wero passed for payment totalling £4 10s 9d.
11l connection -with tho IVigrnra Cun, it ■was agreed to amend tho conditions governing tlio competition, tho main effect being thnt affiliated club a should bo directly represented in future, and not individual pairs. Ladies will be entitled to compete, and club nominations will not bo compulsory, but any pair nominated must bo of tho came sex, and. if successful, the trophy will bo won for tho club, being held foT ono year. Tho cup was presented to last year's winners, "Messrs Tj Coulter and C. E. Atkinson, the former attending for tho purpose. Tho cup is of silver, with a pedestal of wood; bearing carved laurel leaves.
Mr Bassett raid (hat he particularly regretted that Mr Wigram was unable to bo present, owing to his health preventing him being out during evenings. This was tbo first rear the contest had been held, end all would remember what an exciting match bod been witnessed. The judges had great difficulty i” awarding the honours,, ono and a half joints only dividing the first and second pairs. The winners could bo congra.tulafed, but would liavo to atrivo hard next season to retain tho trophy. Tho Oontro presented silver medals also to tho Tunners-un. Messrs G. Barrett and L. Annand. who were unable to bo present. Mr Coulter expressed his thanks for tho ennemtu'at’Vins. and said that tho East Christelinreb r'nb would do its best to eontinuo to hold the trophy.
