NEWS AND NOTES. Mr F. C. Cothcr. who lias been acting secretary -of the- Canterbury Jockey Club for nbout eight months, has received the permanent appointment as secretary of the club. Messrs I<’. Holmes, J. Bryce and M Edwards will leavo at the end of this week for a trip to New South AVales. Holmes and Bryce will probably attend a sale of Mr Miller’s trotting stock, which takes placo on June 22. Backers of favourites had a rare innings at Ellerslio, on the third day of the Auckland Racing Club’s meoting last week, nix out of the soven events being w r on by tho best supported candidates, while in the seventh tho second favourite prevailed. The Wellington sportsman who races ns Mr Loring and whoso horses are usually prepared at Trentham by J. W. Lowe, has placed the yearling colt by Boniforin—Soa Queen under tho care of F. Davis, at Woodvillo. Tho two-year-old Weary Willis, by Bessoniun—Satisfaire, has returned to his old quarters in IT. Telford’s stable at Trentham, after running out in the Wairarapa for a few montlm. 80-Pcep, who has proved herself a rnro galloper in heavy going, will bo raced through the winter, after which she will be sent to Porirha, to be spelled during tho summer montns.
