A muffled peal of hells wa3 rung from the Cathedral yesterday afternoon in memory of Mr William Jones, 212, Worcester Street, who for many years served as a bollringer, and was at one time a' master ringer. Ho died on Sunday in his seventy-fourth year. The following were included among the passengers who mado flights from tho aerodrome at Sockburn last week: Mr T. E. L. Roberts and Miss L. Murray (Friday); Mr H. H. Revell. Mrs J. M. Revell (Saturday); Mrs E Wells, Mr H. O. Graham, Mr H. A. Tinker, Mr Forbes Blackmore, Mr A. J. K. Hutchin, Mr C. 0. Scannell (Sunday); Mrs A. H. Rhodes and Mrs M. E. Francis (yesterday). Mr M. F. O'Donoghue was selected for recommendation to the Canterbury Education Board for the appointment of assistant master at Kaiapoi by the District School Committee at its meeting last evening. Dr T. Julian,, jnn., has been appointed resident surgeon at tho Wairau Hospital, Blenheim. There were four applicants. Dr Julian had three and a half rears' war service He was twelve months house surgeon at the Dunedin Hospital. "Mr F. T. Evans,_ inspector of schools, Timaru, is on a visit to Christchurch, and for the next few weeks will bo helping in the inspection of local schools.

The staff of tho Public Works Department, electrical branch, met at the sub-station, Addington, on Friday afternoon to bid farewell to Mr R. L. Gray, who has held tho position of distribution engineer since tho inception of tho Lako Coleridge power scheme. Mr Gray, who is leaving to take charge of a similar scheme in the Gisborno district, was presented with a silver roso howl, a case of pipes and an inscribed tobacco pouch. Valedictory speeches were made by Messrs Hitchcock, (late engineer in charge of the Lake Coleridge system), Sutcliffe, Sillifnnt, Tcmplin and others.
